How would God’s name have been pronounced?
The way God’s name was originally written in Hebrew did not contain any vowel markers, just consonants. But we know that the Name of God was pronounced aloud on special occasions, so people did know how to say it. And after all, the Biblical tradition has Moses talking with God, so the implication is that the name was spoken at some point.
There are different theories on this, and in this video I present them. But I’m convinced of one in particular, partly because it fits well with the idea of God as a mystery, and partly because of what I have learned in my encounters with the Anishinaabe people of my diocese (Ojibwe and Odawa).
Please stay tuned for part 3!
